The Jigawa State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly condemned the recent extra-judicial killing of 16 hunters from Kano State in Uromi, Edo State
.
Reverend Father Maurice Kole Hassan, Chairman of CAN Jigawa State chapter, described the killing as “purely criminal” and called on the Federal Government and law enforcement agents to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
This was contained in a press statement on Monday which was made available to Journalists in Dutse, Jigawa State capital.
Reverend Father Hassan noted that the killing violates human rights and freedom of movement and association in Nigeria.
He therefore sympathized with the families of the victims and urged the government to take action to prevent such incidents from happening anywhere again.
The CAN chairman emphasized that every human life is valuable and that the organization upholds peace, harmony, and peaceful coexistence among ethnic and religious groups.
The Reverend Father also congratulated Muslims in the state and Nigeria on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.
He commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for promoting peace and understanding between Christians and Muslims in the state.
However, the CAN chairman called for prayer and calm during this period of national trial, economic hardship, and high-level insecurity in the country.
