Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic mob action in Mangun District, Mangu Local Government Area, which claimed eight lives on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Governor Mutfwang’s spokesman Gyang Bere in a statement said the victims, en route from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Quan’pan Local government area for a wedding, mistakenly entered a volatile area plagued by recent terrorist attacks.
The incident, which occurred around 6 p.m., resulted in the death of eight innocent commuters and injuries to several others, now receiving treatment at Mangu General Hospital.
“Visiting the hospital and the scene, Governor Mutfwang condemned the mob action as utterly unacceptable and avoidable,” stressing that ongoing security challenges in Mangun and neighbouring districts do not justify lawlessness.
“This is a tragic day for Plateau. Our youths, who have shown bravery in defending their communities, must not take the law into their own hand.
This incident is a rude shock, and it will not be swept under the carpet,” he said
The Governor assured the victims and their families of full government support and directed hospitals to provide the best care at state expense.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kaduna State, announcing plans to send a high-level delegation to Zaria and engage with the Emir of Zazzau.
Mutfwang also called for a thorough investigation and warned against further mob actions, urging citizens to uphold Plateau’s legacy of peace and hospitality.
