Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has launched an initiative to distribute 30,000 free school uniforms to female students and sporting equipment to senior secondary schools.
The Governor also highlighted flagship programs like the ₦67 billion Jigawa Unite Project, a 5-year initiative that integrates ICT into teaching and provides continuous teacher training.
This was contained in a press statement made available to Nigerian Times Online on Friday, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Muhammad Hamisu Gumel.
According to the statement that Jigawa Compete digital learning program, equips teachers with ICT skills, which further enhanced education quality in the state.
The statement said the program flagged off at the Senior Government Girls Secondary School Jahun is aimed at promoting girl-child education and empower women in the state.
It added that the state’s education sector has received significant budget allocations, with 26.7% of 2025’s budget dedicated to education.
It noted that Governor Namadi has further emphasized his administration’s commitment to education, highlighting investments in technical and vocational education, teacher training, and infrastructure renovation.
The statement stressed that the equipment distributed includes 304 footballs, 70 basketballs, 228 volleyballs, and other sporting materials.
It said the initiative aimed at enhancing the learning environment and encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities.
The statement highlighted that 137 female students were sponsored for specialized courses, over 18,000 students were also supported for JAMB examination, and over N100 Million was used in funding the Girls for Health Programme.
It therefore said 70% of foreign scholarship beneficiaries are female students, demonstrating the government’s commitment to promoting girl-child education.
