Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has been recognized as the “Most Outstanding Education-Friendly Governor of the Decade” by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP).
The award was presented to him recently during a courtesy visit by the ASUP leadership of Hussaini Adamu Polytechnic Kazaure.
Governor Namadi attributed the recognition to his administration’s deliberate decision to overhaul the state’s educational system, which he believes is crucial to the state’s development agenda.
The Governor explained that his administration has conducted a thorough review of the challenges in the education sector and took a firm decision to reset the system from the ground up.
He stated that his administration has made significant investments in education, including the establishment of Jigawa-Compete, a technology university, and a complete overhaul of the leadership structures in all state-owned higher institutions.
However, the Governor’s efforts to transform the education sector have also included the introduction of various job creation schemes, such as J-TECH, J-AGRO, and J-HEALTH, as well as scholarships for girl-child education and sponsorship of less-privileged students to study medicine in India and Cyprus.
ASUP’s chairman, Comrade Nuruddeen Abdullahi Yusuf, praised Governor Namadi for his visionary reforms and education-centered policies, which have positively impacted the lives of people across the state.
Governor Namadi thanked ASUP for the honour, assuring them of continuous collaboration and inviting them to provide feedback and constructive criticism.
He expressed his administration’s commitment to working with academics to further improve the education sector in Jigawa State.
