The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Saleh Pakistan, has assured Nigerian pilgrims of their safety on their way back to Nigeria despite the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
This was disclosed by the NAHCON Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Pakistan, in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa service, and monitored by Nigerian Times on Monday.
According to Professor Pakistan, measures have been put in place to ensure the pilgrims’ safe return, and about 4,000 pilgrims have already returned to Nigeria.
Professor Pakistan disclosed that NAHCON has deployed four airplanes to airlift pilgrims back to Nigeria, with plans to increase the frequency of trips to eight times daily.
He said the commission is working with Saudi Arabian authorities to secure additional flight slots, with two trips per plane, to facilitate a smooth and efficient process.
The NAHCON chairman assured that all Nigerian pilgrims will be airlifted back to Nigeria before June 28, 2025.
However, this assurance comes amid concerns about the potential impact of the conflict on pilgrims’ safety.
Professor Pakistan emphasized that NAHCON’s contingency plans are in place to mitigate any challenges that may arise during the airlifting process.
He further explained that with the commission’s proactive approach, Nigerian pilgrims can expect a seamless return journey.
“NAHCON’s efforts to ensure the pilgrims’ safety and comfort demonstrate the commission’s commitment to providing excellent services to Nigerian Muslims,” he concluded.
