The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the recent Babura-Garki federal constituency by-election, with the party’s candidate, Mukhtar Rabi’u, polling 38,449 votes.
While his closest rival, Isa Auwalu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), scored 13,519 votes.
However, the victory of the APC has been attributed to the firm control and influence of the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who is a prominent APC member in the area.
This was contained in release made available on Sunday by Mati Ali, Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Honourable Minister of Defence.
Ali said the Minister of Defence, has emerged victorious in his polling unit, Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School Polling Unit 002, during the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency by-election held.
According to him that the authentic results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 188 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 164 votes.
He said the outcome confirms the Minister’s clear and convincing control and victory in his polling unit.
“Contrary to reports circulating online by mischief makers, which suggested the Minister lost his polling unit to the PDP, the actual results from Polling Unit 002 indicate otherwise.
“The misleading reports were attributed to results from Polling Unit 001, which showed PDP leading with 308 votes to APC’s 112 votes,” Ali said.
However, the Personal Assistant to the Minister of Defence, has clarified that the Minister’s actual polling unit is 002, and the results from this unit are the authentic reflection of the Minister’s electoral performance.
The APC candidate, Mukhtar Rabi’u, has been declared the winner of the Babura-Garki federal constituency by-election, polling 38,449 votes against his closest rival, Isa Auwalu of PDP, who scored 13,519 votes.
The by-election was conducted peacefully under tight security, with personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Nigeria Immigration Service deployed to maintain order.
