The Chief Medical Doctor of the newly established National Orthopaedic hospital in Jalingo, Taraba state, Professor Chubadu Tahir on Wednesday said that the Federal Government has mandated him to make the hospital a world class Orthopaedic that would serve the people of the North-East region.
Chubadu who stated this during an exclusive interview with selected journalists in Jalingo hinted that he had the dream of transforming the hospital to compete globally.
“When we were appointed, it was only me and the director of administration who were appointed on acting capacity, we built on from there, and I was initially directed by the federal ministry of health to sort for my staff from existing institution on secondment and they were the hardworking people we use to setup the foundation of the hospital ” he said.
He noted that when they resumed duty, Taraba state government provided temporary site and land for the permanent site, adding that a memorandum of understanding between the Federal Ministry of Health and the state government was signed in August, 2024.
“The state government gave us seven hectares of land and later, His Excellency, Dr Agbu Kefas graciously approved additional five hectares which all together is twelve hectares.
“When we came on board, they were no structures, this place was a drug rehabilitation center, but we have to do some restructuring.
“Also I came with a vision and to the glory of Almighty Allah, I got funding from the federal government which aid me to within two years put this magnificent buildings today ” he added.
He also highlighted that when they started operation, they began by opening an out patient clinic in August, 2024.
He stressed that in March this 2025, the hospital started incremental surgery, stressing that the first case was bone infection.
He further maintained that in less than two months, the Orthopaedic has carried out over fifteen successful surgery.
He therefore said that the temporary site is over run due to the bed space, saying the hospital is in dear need of funds.
