The Inclusive Forum for Accountable Society (IFAS) has demonstrated its commitment to community development through a stakeholders’ meeting with civil society organizations and community representatives.
Supported by ActionAid’s Local Rights program, IFAS engaged with key stakeholders to address pressing community issues and promote inclusive decision-making.
The meeting held in the conference Hall of the Ministry for Women Affairs discussed pressing issues affecting local communities, seeking solutions and inclusive budgeting in 2027.
During the meeting, community members highlighted problems that were overlooked in the 2026 budget, including the lack of water in Aibon Iro, inadequate toilet facilities in Sabara, and poor sanitation in Rokwato Saleh.
However, Barrister Aisha Suleiman Jahun, founder of Baba Azimi Foundation and coordinator of Local Rights, supported by ActionAid, expressed satisfaction with the achievements made within the short period in 2025.
She said the Stakeholders provided valuable advice and strategies on how to address these issues in the 2027 budget.
Jahun explained that the meeting aimed at linking up with key stakeholders who can provide necessary projects and support to address these community challenges.
This initiative showcases IFAS’s dedication to empowering communities and promoting accountability.
The participants emphasized the importance of inclusive budgeting and ensuring that community voices are heard in the decision-making process.
Empowered communities thank Organization
Ladi Idi from Miga Local Government Area expressed gratitude to Local Rights supported by Action Aid that has transformed their community.
She said before the organization’s presence, she was unaware of many things, but now she has learned how to make local fertilizers, both solid and liquid.
“The community has also benefited from a monthly contribution system, which they use to help one another.
“Additionally, we have access to a midwife who attends to women in labour,” she added.
Another member from the communities, Hadi Mohammed from Miga also expressed satisfaction with the organization’s enlightenment programs, which have encouraged parents to send their children to school.
“The community has also come together to repair their borehole, showcasing their newfound sense of unity and cooperation,” he said.
