The Jigawa State Advocacy Committee for the Revitalization of Almajiri and Out-of-School Children has flagged off its statewide campaign in Dutse.
This was contained in the release made available on Thursday by Husseini Kwalam, the spoke person of the Committee.
The ceremony was launched by the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammad Hamim Nuhu Sanusi, represented by Turakin Dutse Alhaji Jamilu Basiru Sanusi.
The Chairman of the state Advocacy Committee, Malam Abdullahi Yunusa, stated that the campaign aims to sensitize and promote public awareness on the challenges facing Almajiri and out-of-school children in the state.
According to Malam Abdullahi Yunusa, Nigeria has the highest number of out-of-school children in the world, with over 10 million children, and one in every five out-of-school children globally is from Nigeria, with most of them from the North, cited UNICEF statistics of 2018.
He said to address this challenge, the committee has set up a five-member sub-committee in each of the three senatorial zones of the state, comprising traditional rulers, Ulamas, and civil society organizations.
He said other prominent figures who spoke at the occasion include the Chief Imam of Hadejia, Malam Yusuf Abdulrahman, who advised the government to absorb Tsangaya Alarammas in its payroll and provide them with training on managing their Qur’anic schools.
Also Sa’in Dutse Malam Mahmud Yunus lamented that the alarming rate of out-of-school children in the state, calling for urgent attention to address the situation.
