The Jigawa State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme Board has disbursed over N1.5 billion to 569 retirees across the state.
The beneficiaries include retirees from state service, local governments, and Local Education Authorities (LEAs).
Addressing reporters on Monday, Dr. Binyaminu Shitu Aminu, Executive Secretary of the Pension Board, said a total sum of N1,505,449,327.78 Billion was distributed among the retirees, encompassing retirement benefits, death benefits, and death pension balances.
The breakdown of the payment shows that 287 retirees from state service received N875,625,045 Million, while 158 retirees from local governments got N355,025,795.72 Million.
Additionally, 124 LEA beneficiaries were paid N274,798,487.06 Million.
Dr. Aminu reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to timely disbursement of entitlements, including monthly pension payments on the first week of each month.
However, the state Head of the Civil Service, Alhaji Muhammad Dagaceri, commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for his unwavering commitment to sustaining and enhancing the pension scheme.
He described Jigawa’s pension model as one of the best in the country, noting that over 20 states have visited Jigawa to learn from its approach.
Alhaji Dagaceri urged retirees and active civil servants to continue praying for the government to achieve its objectives.
He said the pension payment has brought relief to the retirees, who expressed gratitude to Governor Namadi for prioritizing their welfare.
Dr. Aminu cautioned against fraudsters, emphasizing that the Board’s services are free and urging retirees not to offer bribes for their entitlements.
