Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has sworn in Prof. Salim Abdurrahman Lawal as the pioneer Commissioner for the newly created Ministry of Livestock Development.
The Governor described the creation of the ministry as a historic move, aimed at unlocking the sector’s vast potential and driving economic diversification in the state.

Namadi said livestock is the second largest economic activity in Jigawa State after agriculture, believing that the new ministry will play a crucial role in developing the industry.
Governor Namadi expressed confidence in Prof. Salim Abdurrahman’s expertise, citing his academic background in animal science.
He urged the commissioner to work towards impacting the lives of the people of Jigawa State, noting that as the pioneer commissioner, he has the opportunity to make history.
However, the Governor emphasized the significance of the ministry, stating that it will drive the development of the livestock sector and improve the livelihoods of the people.
He said the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development is part of the state government’s efforts to diversify its economy and improve the lives of its citizens.
“With livestock being a major economic activity in the state, the new ministry is expected to play a key role in unlocking the sector’s potential and contributing to the state’s economic growth,” he concluded.
