The Jigawa State Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has launched a tree planting campaign as part of the 2025 Desertification and Drought Day celebration.
The campaign, which saw hundreds of students participated, aimed at raising awareness about environmental degradation and promote sustainable practices.
The initiative was on Wednesday led round Dutse, the state capital by the Managing Director of the Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA), Adamu Sabo.
According to Sabo, the campaign is part of the present administration’s 12-point agenda to address environmental challenges and turn them into economic benefits.
“The agency, with support from UNICEF, has set aside 500 trees for planting along the new roads in Dutse metropolis and environs.
“This effort aims is to reduce environmental challenges such as erosion and air pollution that has become major problem in the society,” he added.
Sabo emphasized that Jigawa State is one of the states facing environmental desertification and drought, which can be mitigated by adopting tree planting habits.
He therefore urged the people of Jigawa, particularly the youth, to support Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s initiatives to make Jigawa a better state.
“The tree planting campaign demonstrates the state’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.
“By working together with UNICEF and engaging hundreds of students, Jigawa State is taking proactive steps to address environmental challenges and promote a greener future,” he concluded.
