Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has explained that his support for the opposition coalition under the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) is driven by patriotism and a desire to save democracy in Nigeria.
Speaking in Dutse, Jigawa State capital on Monday, Lamido said the coalition’s unity is for the progress of the country, not selfish interests.
He reaffirmed his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that he will not leave the party, he helped build in 1998.
Lamido made the disclosure while introducing the Jigawa State chairman of the ADC, Alhaji Kabiru Hussaini, to PDP members at a political gathering.
He commended federal lawmakers, including Senator Mustapha Khabeeb, for an empowerment programme that distributed items worth billions of Naira to over 3000 constituents.
The items included irrigation machines, solar irrigation machines, and sewing machines.
Also Senator Mustapha Khabeeb, representing Jigawa South West, said the PDP’s empowerment programme aims to lift people out of poverty, just as the party did between 1999 and 2015.
He therefore contrasted the PDP’s progress and developmental strides with the current APC government’s abject poverty.
