The NISTAD Empowerment Foundation has advised the Nigerian government and African continent to invest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital skills to empower youth to overcome challenges such as insecurity, lack of electricity, water, and low access to healthcare.
This was contained in a press statement issued, signed and made available to Nigerian Times Online on Wednesday by the communication officer to the foundation Ms Folusho Ogar.
The statement said the call to action highlights the potential of AI and digital skills to drive positive change and improve the lives of young people in Nigeria and beyond.
According to the statement that Mss. Ada Jabaru, Executive Director and CEO of the foundation said the theme “Youth Empowerment Through AI and Digital Skills” is a timely reminder of the importance of digital skills in today’s world.
Ogar explained that the foundation has been working to support youth development and community growth through training in digital and AI-related skills, women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship programs, and supporting primary healthcare and education.
Ms Ogar, noted that NISTAD promotes inclusion, innovation, and sustainable development by bridging research, training, and hands-on support to prepare young people for leadership in a fast-changing world.
Ogar stressed that the foundation is calling on government at all levels in Nigeria to increase investments in youth employability through AI and digital skills, with a focus on making sure girls and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are part of the tech future.
“By investing in youth, especially in skills that match today’s needs, young people can drive positive change in their communities and beyond, marking the 10th anniversary of World Youth Skills Day”, he concluded.
