The Nigerian Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has said that no foreign intervention will bring about sustained peace in Nigeria, but Nigerians must make peace for themselves.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to having peace in Nigeria and Plateau State.
The Senate President made the remarks while addressing a gathering at the Jos Polo Field during the formal reception of political defectors into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Let me assure the People of Plateau State, your concerns are going to be met. I cry whenever I hear the killing of a human being, whether a child or an adult on the Plateau.
“This problem we are having now, did not start today, somany people have died on the Plateau, to the shame of the nation, Nigeria is crying out, a lot of blood have been shed and we are not happy. The President of Nigeria is equally not happy,”
Akpabio sympathised.
The Senate President seemingly, frowned at the threats posed by Donald Trump, on the alleged genocide on Christians in Nigeria, saying it all started in 2010.
“Most of the report you are hearing, that they are using internationally were reports prepared in 2010, at that time I was a governor and I know how people were been killed everywhere,” he said.
Akpabio stated that they cannot deny the fact that a lot of People have been murdered, including children, and many have become internally displaced persons in their states, which must be stopped.
“We are calling on God the Almighty to help us at the center to bring peace to Plateau, any body that will rule Plateau must be somebody commited to peace.
“This is the only party that cares for you. Change has come to Plateau,” he said.
The Senate President stated that only Nigerians themselves can bring the desired peace, emphasising that no outsider would bring peace to Nigeria.
“I stand here representing the President and to assure you that we will do everything possible to ensure that you have peace, it is not people outside that will come and give you peace.
“It is we that must have peace, we must live in peace with one another, Nigeria must have peace for progress to come,” he said.
