Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has shared the successes and challenges of the state’s ‘Kantin Sauki’ Palliative Shop Programme at the launch of Sokoto State’s Palliative Shop Initiative.
Jigawa State launched the program, in July 2024, to provide subsidized essential commodities to civil servants and pensioners, including all the 287 political wards across the state.
This was stated and made available to Nigerian Times Online on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Muhammad Hamisu Gumel.
Governor Namadi highlighted the program’s impact on food security and worker welfare, but also noted challenges such as initial delays in technology deployment and security concerns at distribution outlets.
He advised a phased and flexible approach to implementation and commended Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, for adopting the model.
However, the Jigawa State Governor pledged to share experiences and technical support to ensure the success of Sokoto’s ‘Shagon Sauki Na Ahmadun Alu’ initiative.
He therefore said the shop aims is to address vulnerability to erosion of purchasing power and support improvements in socioeconomic well-being and family food security.
