Lamido slams Tinubu’s political manoeuvre

The former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political manoeuvre, accusing him of creating a one-party system in Nigeria.

Lamido who was the former of Governor of Jigawa State from 2007 to 2015 stated this in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa service, monitored by the Nigerian Times on Tuesday.

Lamido expressed his disappointment with the current political landscape across the country, where politicians from other political parties are decamping into the All Progressive Congress (APC) without genuine reason.

Lamido specifically mentioned the present Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori and a former Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa who was the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election.

It would be recalled that recently the present Governor and the former Governor had dumped the PDP for the ruling APC.

He further lamented that the current political situation could undermine democracy in Nigeria if the trend continues.

According to Lamido, the ruling party’s dominance threatens the country’s democratic foundation.

He emphasized that a country with a robust multi-party system lead to a healthy competition and representation.

However, Lamido’s comments highlight the growing concerns about Nigeria’s political direction and the potential erosion of democratic institutions.

Therefore, his criticism underscores the importance of opposition voices in maintaining a balanced political system.
