The Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hameem Nuhu Sanusi, has urged parents in Jigawa State to immunize their children against the Polio virus, program piloted by the United Nations Children Education Funds (UNICEF).
He made this call during the flagging off of the Polio Immunization campaign at Jiba community in Dutse Local Government Area of the state, carried out by UNICEF.
The Emir emphasized the importance of immunization, citing his late father’s example of demonstrating the safety of the vaccine on his grandchildren.
He stressed that failing to immunize children would be a betrayal, and that immunization has significantly reduced the number of Polio victims in their communities.
The Emir commended the Dutse council chairman for laying the foundation of a healthcare facility in Jiba, which he said would greatly benefit the community, particularly pregnant mothers.
He noted that the facility would reduce the suffering of pregnant mothers who have to travel long distances to access maternity services.
The healthcare facility, according to the Emir, would provide various medical tests and services, reducing the need for residents to travel to Dutse for health needs.
He expressed optimism that the facility would improve healthcare delivery in the community.
However, the Emir’s call for immunization and his commendation of the healthcare facility’s establishment highlighted the importance of healthcare initiatives in promoting the well-being of communities in the State.
Also Dr. Hassan Shuaibu, Director of the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, who represented the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health at the Polio Immunization campaign in Jiba community urged parents to immunize their children in time.
He further highlighted the progress made in the health sector, particularly in tackling diseases through immunization.
Dr. Shuaibu emphasized that immunizing children against Polio can significantly reduce treatment costs and improve overall health in the communities.
He also noted that the new healthcare facility being established in Jiba would bring relief to the community, providing free drugs and access to healthcare personnel.
The Director urged community members to utilize the healthcare facility once it’s completed.
He also announced plans for health personnel to visit villages to immunize children, further improving healthcare across the state.
Dr. Shuaibu attributed the reduction in disease cases to immunization efforts.
He noted that diseases like measles, chickenpox, and smallpox have been eradicated through constant vaccinations across nation and the world at large.
“The improvement in healthcare services in Jigawa State is expected to have a positive impact on the community, reducing the burden of diseases and improving overall well-being,” he stressed.
