Federal Government of Nigeria has planned to establish an Anti-Riot Police unit and construct 20 blocks of police barracks in Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The measure is aimed at curbing the menace of the periodic conflicts between farmers and herders in the area.
This was announced by Senator Abdulhamid Ahmed Malam Madori, representing Jigawa Northeast Senatorial District during “the government and the people engagement program” held in Guri town on Sunday.
The Senator said the project is aimed at enhancing security in the area, particularly between farmers and Fulani herdsmen.
The Senator also noted that Guri is a fertile area with a high potential for farming and herding, which often leads to conflicts between the two groups.
“To address this, Federal Government, in collaboration with the state government, will construct a modern police station and provide necessary security facilities.
“Therefore, I praised the State Government’s efforts in maintaining peace and unity in Guri and environs,” he stressed.
The Senator also announced the construction of a modern stadium in Guri, equipped with a big visual screen for watching football matches.
He further highlighted his achievements, including securing white-collar jobs for over 40 youths from the local government area.
He therefore urged the people to maintain peace and support the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led governments at the federal and state levels for more development projects.
