The Nigerian Communication Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) in partnership with the Jigawa State Government had trained 150 youths on satellite technology and digital communication.
This initiative aimed at equipping young minds with cutting-edge knowledge to create job opportunities and boost the economy.
This was stated by Jane Egertone Idehen, the Managing Director of the NIGCOMSAT during a five day training programme held on Monday at the Manpower Development Institute (MDI), Dutse.
She said the training, themed “Space Technology for Grassroots Development,” is designed to foster innovation and enhance technical skills in the space-tech industry.
Idehen, further highlighted the organization’s role in driving grassroots innovation in Jigawa State.
She explained that the program features two key sub-programs: Spacehack 2025 and Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) technology training.
“Spacehack 2025 focuses on developing satellite technology to tackle real-world challenges in areas like agriculture, disaster management, and security issues.
“VSAT technology, on the other hand, is a satellite communication system that uses small antennas to transmit and receive data, voice, and video signals,” she stressed.
Also, the Director General of Jigawa State Economic Empowerment and Youth Employment Agency, Dr. Habib Muhammad Ubale, urged participants to concentrate and acquire the skills to step down to others for better development.
He therefore commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for his support and NIGCOMSAT for choosing Jigawa out of many states to conduct the training.
“The training is part of the Governor Namadi’s 12-point agenda, aimed at creating thousands of jobs, improving the economy, and reducing security challenges in the state.
“This initiative is part of a broader effort to harness satellite technology for youth development and national growth.
“The Nigerian Government has emphasized the importance of innovation and technology in driving economic growth and development,” he emphasized.
He said by empowering youths with cutting-edge knowledge and skills, NIGCOMSAT and the Jigawa State Government hope to create a new wave of tech-driven solutions in the region.
