The Jigawa State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Malam Umar Namadi, has approved several key projects and initiatives worth billions of naira.
This was stated on Monday by Honourable Sagir Musa, the Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sports and Culture.
According to him that one of the major approvals is the payment of $2.68 million (₦4.42 billion) for 184 students studying in the health sector at Near East University, Cyprus, for the 2025/2026 session.
He said this payment covers tuition, accommodation, allowances, permits, and health insurance for the students.
Additionally, the council has approved ₦2.69 billion for the construction of 32 stormwater drainage systems across 13 Local Government Areas in the state.
A 30% advance payment of ₦809.5 million was also approved, and five consultants were appointed to oversee the projects.
The council noted that the project aims to combat annual flooding and promote environmental sustainability.
Furthermore, the council has approved ₦448 million for the Danmodi Student Care Programme, which will provide school uniforms, bags, books, bicycles, and wheelchairs for basic education students.
He said the council also approved the recruitment of 37 non-indigenous medical doctors on a permanent and pensionable basis to fill healthcare staffing gaps in the state.
However, the decision was necessitated by the unavailability of unemployed indigenous doctors, Musa added.
He stressed that the council also received the Agricultural Structure Survey Report, which is the first of its kind in Jigawa’s history, and will inform food security and economic empowerment policies under the 12-Point Agenda.
