Jigawa State Commissioner for Humanitarian and Special Duties, Hon. Auwal Sankara, has disbursed N50 million in empowerment funds to over 250 youths and women from his constituency.
Each beneficiary received N250,000 to either expand their businesses or start new ones.
The cash empowerment program was launched during Governor Umar Namadi’s visit to Ringim Local Government as part of the state government’s “Government and Public Engagement” initiative.
Hon. Sankara stated that the program complements Governor Namadi’s efforts in youth employment, job creation, and poverty alleviation.
The commissioner promised to continue supporting the governor’s 12-point agenda, designed to foster prosperity and development in Jigawa State.
Governor Namadi commended Hon. Sankara for the empowerment initiative, which aligns with his administration’s focus on empowerment, job creation, and poverty eradication.
Governor Namadi emphasized the importance of addressing poverty to accelerate economic growth and employment, highlighting the need for skills training and creating an enabling business environment.
He therefore urged elected officials, business leaders, and wealthy individuals to empower those around them to drive growth and development.
He said the initiative is part of the Governor’s efforts to support vulnerable groups, similar to a recent program where the state government empowered 12,600 women with N50,000 each, totaling N630 million.
