Citizens of Jigawa State have commended Auwalu Danladi Sankara, Commissioner for Special Duties, for his prudent management of the N4.8 billion Ramadan Iftar feeding program.
The commendation was made recently during “the government and the citizens engagement programme” held at Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Speaking to reporters, Musa Daudu and Maimuna Natara said they were among the beneficiaries of the program that took place in the Local Government.
They said the committee led by Lawan Danzomo did the successful work under the supervision of the Ministry for Special Duties headed by Sankara.
It would be recalled that the program, which served over 5.7 million meals to 190,000 individuals daily across 634 feeding centers, was widely acclaimed for its success.
Notably, the program demonstrated exemplary fiscal responsibility, with N301 million leftover funds being returned to the state government’s coffers.
This responsible stewardship has earned Sankara and the Iftar Committee high praise from citizens and the State Executive Council.
The committee’s efficient management ensured that local businesses and farmers benefited significantly from the program, with N3.5 billion spent on procurement.
The success of the program has also boosted the incomes of 3,804 cooks, who earned N87,000 each.
However, the commendation from the citizens underscores the transparency and accountability that defined the program’s implementation.
